About the Positions
These positions combine subject-area instruction with homeroom responsibilities. Overview of Curriculum by Grade
5th Grade:
Math: Arithmetic, rational number study, statistics, problem solving, and geometry
Science: Force, motion, and simple machines; exploring variables as a function of experimental design; Science Expo (students work in groups to design experiments and communicate findings); and geology
6th Grade:
Math: Arithmetic, geometry, and elementary algebra, including fractions, decimals, percents, metric measurement, two-dimensional geometry, and probability. We use Connected Mathematics as our foundational curriculum and supplement with teacher-created materials.
Science: Earth science study focusing on the sun as our source of energy, including light, the earth’s atmosphere, global climate change, and groundwater pollution
7th & 8th Grade:
7th and 8th grade math is a two-year algebra sequence. In 7th grade, the focus is on expressions, equations, exponents, linear relationships with slope and graphing, and introductory 3D geometry. The 8th grade builds upon this foundation and completes the algebra sequence.
7th grade science is life science, including genetics, microscopy, evolution, and human growth and development.
