The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
The Research Assistant will be an integral member of the Cardiovascular Surgery Research Team, supporting the processing and storage of biological samples. Under direct supervision, the Research Assistant will help to facilitate translational cardiovascular research studies. The individual on heart valve physiology, cardiovascular tissue biomechanics, vascular cell physiology, and tissue biochemistry. Will also collaborate with clinical cardiothoracic and animal research teams.
Responsibilities
Process and store human biological samples according to established protocols.
Accurately record sample information in the biobank database.
Perform basic and translational research experiments in the area of cardiovascular physiology and material science.
Prepare clinical samples (including blood and tissue specimens for histological analysis).
Facilitate benchtop research and manage clinical information pertaining to research specimens.
Compile and present results in a brief and efficient approach.
Assist with preparing manuscripts and presentations.
Communicate amongst both researchers and clinicians..
Support other functions as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and at least 1.5 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity and experience with the following laboratory techniques: processing clinical samples, histology, cell culture, immunoassays, biomechanics, imaging, and data analysis.
1-2 years of laboratory experience outside of coursework.
Experience working with patient files, patient demographics, and clinical information.
Other Requirements
Work requires manual dexterity for handling charts and using office equipment - specifically the use of a computer keyboard and calculator.
Must be able to stoop and bend to retrieve files and supplies, and sit, stand, or move around for extended periods of time.
