Postdoctoral Fellow in Electrochemical Engineering for Chemical Manufacturing
Harvard University
Application
Details
Posted: 09-May-26
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
Categories:
Engineering
Internal Number: 16259
School: Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
Position Description:
The Schiffer electrochemical engineering laboratory at Harvard University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in electrochemical engineering reactor design and characterization, beginning in October 2026, or soon thereafter. The applicant will be working on building electrochemical devices and investigating new electrochemical reactions, such as nitrogen cycle reactions or intermediate temperature electrochemical processes. The candidate will work closely with Professor Zachary Schiffer on projects related to understanding how voltage can be used to drive processes that currently rely on large scales and severe reaction conditions. Specifically, the Schiffer lab focuses on how device-scale design decisions such as temperature and electrolyte flow patterns influence electocatalyst activity. The position is for one year, renewable for two additional years. For further information about the work in our lab, please visit schifferlab.seas.harvard.edu or contact zschiffer@seas.harvard.edu.
Basic Qualifications:
PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, engineering, physics, or similar fields by the expected start date.
Additional Qualifications:
Applicants should have experience in a chemistry wet lab and ideally should have experience synthesizing catalysts such as metal oxide nanoparticles for electrochemical devices, as well as experience with electrochemistry and building electrochemical devices. A successful candidate is driven and independent, and the candidate will be responsible for helping the PI to start new projects and help mentor new graduate and undergraduate students.
Harvard is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, creed, national origin, ancestry, age, protected veteran status, disability, genetic information, military service, pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions, or other protected status.
Salary Range:
$67,600 – $91,826
Pay offered to the selected candidate is dependent on factors such as rank, years of experience, training or qualification, field of scholarship, and accomplishments in the field.
